Widgets on Android

Widgets show your plan and let you check off tasks from your phone's home screen. They work in the Android app.

The app is in Russian for now; the English interface is in preparation. Screenshots show the Russian interface, and button names in the text are given in English.

  1. Open “Zarok widgets”

On the “Profile” tab at the bottom of the screen, tap “Zarok widgets” in the “App” group. At the top of the gallery, in the “Your Zarok” block, choose which Zarok appears on the widgets. There are seven: Anchor, Feelings, Courage, Care, Connection, Focus, and Meaning. Your choice applies right away. Each widget swipes separately: the dots below it show its states.

“Zarok widgets” screen in the app: text at the top and the “Your Zarok” block with seven forms, with switches and look settings below (screenshot is in Russian)
“Zarok widgets” opens from “Profile.” Choose your Zarok, swipe through each widget, and tap “+ Add widget.”
  2. Add a widget with the button

Find the widget you want and tap “+ Add widget.” Confirm in the phone's dialog. The “Today” widget (“Zarok · day” in the phone's widget list) shows the whole day: the morning ritual, prep, and tasks by time, each with a checkmark.

  3. Add it by hand if there's no dialog

Press and hold an empty spot on the home screen, choose “Widgets,” then “Zarok.” Find the widget you want, press and hold it, and drag it into place. This path depends on your phone and launcher. The in-app button adds the widget by itself only on Android 8.0 and newer, and only if the launcher supports it; in other cases, the app will show you this path.

  4. Resize it

Drag the widget's frame to make it bigger or smaller. Your phone handles this, so the frame looks different depending on the launcher. All Zarok widgets can be resized wider and taller. “Day” is 4 × 2 by default. A small “Day” shows the count in a ring and a strip; a tall one shows the day's items with checkmarks.

  5. Move widgets and tasks

To move a widget on the screen, drag it. Zarok widgets don't have “up” and “down” buttons. Tasks inside a widget are sorted by time: earlier ones go higher, and tasks without a time go at the end. To move a task up, open it in “Day” and set an earlier time.

  6. Check off a task

Tap the task's row: the checkmark appears right away. Tapping again removes the check. In some widget views, only the checkmark next to the task checks it off, and tapping the name opens the app. Check-offs are saved in the widget's queue and reach the app when you open it or go back to the screen.

A sample in the “Zarok widgets” gallery, not a phone screen: the morning ritual, with the check-offs still empty.
  7. Open the app from a widget

Tap the widget's background or name, and the app opens to today. On the “Calendar” widget, tapping a day opens that day. On the Quit vow widget, it opens the “Vows” tab; on the assistant widget, it opens the chat.

  8. Talk to the assistant

The assistant widget works with a “Zarok Plus” subscription. Before your first conversation, you need to confirm your age and consent to requests being processed on the assistant screen. Tap the card to open the chat. Tap an example tile to put that example into the input field without sending it. Tap the microphone to start recording your voice; a second tap is “Stop,” and the text appears in the field. You can also write in your own words, for example: “Add 10 minutes of breathing to my morning ritual at 07:00” (ritual step), “Breakfast at 08:30” (meal), “Workout on Mondays and Thursdays at 19:00, 60 minutes” (event), “I'm starting a 15-day course, every day at 09:00” (course). You send the message yourself.

  9. Confirm the entry

The assistant doesn't save anything on its own. Instead, a plan card appears. It has lines like “new entry · course,” “new entry · meal,” “new entry · step,” or “event change.” If a similar entry already exists, a warning appears: “A similar entry already exists.” “Apply” saves the plan, and “No thanks” cancels it. If there are several entries, the button shows how many are checked: “Apply (N).” If the plan will replace existing data, tick “I confirm replacing existing data”: without that box, “Apply” isn't available. If the assistant needs more details, they'll ask questions in a list below the message. Answer them in one message, by text or voice.

  10. Look, color, and Zarok

In “Zarok widgets,” open “Widget style”: “Painted” puts Zarok in painted scenes, free; “Minimal” has no paintings; “Mix” shows a painting on one day and a minimal look on another. “Minimal” and “Mix” are part of the subscription. “Widget look” sets the color for all widgets: “Same as the app” is free, and the other palettes require a subscription. The “Zarok on widgets” and “Zarok's reactions” switches are free: with Zarok off on widgets, the count and tasks stay.

Widget settings: the “Zarok on widgets” and “Zarok's reactions” switches, “Widget look” and “Widget style” with the options “Painted,” “Minimal,” and “Mix” (screenshot is in Russian)
“Painted” is free; “Minimal” and “Mix” are part of the subscription. “Widget look” sets the color for all widgets.
  11. Paid widgets and the lock

These are part of “Zarok Plus”: “Next step,” “Progress,” “At your pace” (in the gallery, “Soft start”), “Quiet recap” (in the gallery, “Day recap”), “Calendar,” “My steps and dates,” and the assistant. You can add such a widget without a subscription, but instead of its content, the screen shows a lock. Tap the lock to open the subscription screen. Subscriptions are set up through Google Play.

“Day recap · 4 × 1” card in the widget gallery, labeled “Without Plus, it'll show a lock on screen” (screenshot is in Russian)
You can add a paid widget without a subscription; on the home screen, it shows a lock.
  12. Set up “My steps and dates”

When you add this widget, the setup opens; on Android 12 and newer, you can skip it. Choose a mode: “One task,” “Task · week,” “Task · history,” “Four steps,” “Key date,” or “Calendar & plan.” The gear on the widget itself opens the setup again.

Questions about this section

A little more
clarity.

Why is there a lock on the widget?

That's how a paid widget appears when you don't have a “Zarok Plus” subscription. For the full list of paid widgets, see the “Paid widgets and the lock” step. The button on the lock depends on whether you've had a subscription before: “Renew,” “Try it free” (if the store offers a free trial), or “Get Plus.” Tapping it opens the subscription screen.

Why didn't the “+ Add widget” button add anything?

The app adds the widget by itself only on Android 8.0 and newer, and only if the launcher supports it. Otherwise, a hint appears: press and hold an empty spot on the home screen, choose “Widgets” and “Zarok,” then drag the widget you want into place.

The widget shows old data. What should I do?

Open the app: when it starts, it sends the widget fresh data. After each change in the app, the widget updates on its own, almost right away.

Will I get a reminder for a task I've already checked off on the widget?

No. Checking off a task on the widget cancels its reminder.

Where do check-offs made on the widget go?

They're saved on the phone in the widget's queue and reach the app when you open it or go back to the screen. If the app is already open, this happens right away. After that, they're recorded as regular check-offs.

How is the “Progress” widget different from the “Progress” section?

The “Progress” widget (part of “Zarok Plus”) shows the day's count: how much is done and how much is left. The “Progress” section shows your streak, closed days, and time by category. By default, the section isn't in the tab bar: you can add it to the bar, or open it from “Profile,” in the “More sections” area.
