Reminders

Reminders come to your phone in the Android app: they're turned on with the main switch and set separately for each task.

The app is in Russian for now; the English interface is in preparation. Screenshots show the Russian interface, and button names in the text are given in English.

  1. Open “Reminders” in Profile

Tap the “Profile” tab at the bottom of the screen. In the “App” block, there's a “Reminders” row. Under its name it says “off”, “on”, “on, but may be late” or “your phone isn't showing them”.

  2. Turn on reminders

Turn on the “Turn on reminders” switch at the top of the page. If your phone asks for notification permission, allow it. Without permission, reminders won't turn on. The app opens Zarok's notification settings and asks you to turn on “Allow notifications”. If it can't open them, it shows: “Your phone didn't allow notifications: Phone Settings → Apps → ‘Zarok’ → Notifications”. When reminders are on, the switch shows “Reminders are on”, and underneath it says: “Delivered to your phone, work offline”. Turning it off clears all scheduled reminders. Reminders are off by default. Once the intro is done, the app asks for phone permission once on the next launch and turns reminders on if you allow it. If you decline or turn them off, the app remembers that and stops asking.

  3. Check notifications and exact timing

A warning “Allow notifications” appears on the page with an “Open settings” button; the “Reminders” row in Profile says “your phone isn't showing them” in that case. Tap the button: the phone asks for permission. If the phone has already blocked notifications, its notification settings for “Zarok” open: turn on “Allow notifications” there. If the “Reminders” row in Profile says “on, but may be late”, the page shows a warning “Set exact timing” with an “Open settings” button. Tap it. The system screen “Alarms & reminders” opens (on Android 12 and newer): allow it there and go back to the app. The warning goes away.

  4. Choose which tasks to remind about

The “Which tasks to remind about” list appears when reminders are on. It lists tasks for the next seven days, including today, by time; quit vows come at the end. Repeats of one task show as one row. Turn on the switch next to a task, and the reminder arrives at its time. Without the switch on, you won't be reminded about that task. One switch covers all the days of a task, for example all course intakes or all repeats of a course step. If reminders are off, the switches are saved but nothing is scheduled.

  5. Choose how Zarok addresses you and the evening recap time

When reminders are on, under “Zarok's words” choose “Polite” or “Casual”: below your choice, the app explains how Zarok talks and shows an example reminder. In the “Evening recap” row (21:30 by default), tap the time, pick it on the wheel, and tap “Done”. “Cancel” keeps the previous time.

  6. Check “Remind me” in a task window

First turn on reminders (step 2). Then, on the “Day” tab, tap ⋮ next to a meal, event, or step you added yourself: the window opens right away, and there's a “Remind me” row at the bottom. For a course step or a course intake, ⋮ opens a menu. For a step, choose “Edit action”. For a course intake, choose “Open course”, then tap ⋮ on the course card: the “Remind me” row there is one for all of the course's intakes. Tap the “Remind me” row: the checkmark is set right away, no saving needed. For a task you've just added, the row is replaced by “You can turn on the reminder after saving”: check it once the task is saved and opened again. To make the reminder come earlier or later, change the task's time in the same window.

The “Remind me” row at the bottom of a task window (the screenshot shows an event). You check it yourself. A new task doesn't have the row yet: it appears after saving.
  7. Check off a task when it's done

In the day's schedule, the checkmark on the right checks off an item, and ⋮ opens editing (for course items, a menu opens first). A checked-off task no longer reminds you: its reminder is cancelled, including when the task is checked off on the home-screen widget. Items are sorted by time, but cards pinned by swiping right (“Pin”) come first. Items can't be moved up or down.

  8. Respond to a task reminder

A task reminder has two buttons. “Done” checks off the task and opens the app on that task's day. “In an hour” snoozes the reminder: it comes again in an hour if the task still isn't checked off. The app shows “I'll remind you in an hour”, but it doesn't switch the day for you. Tapping the notification text opens that task's day. Zarok's words don't have buttons: tapping them opens today.

  9. Log a task by voice or text

On the “Assistant” tab, type or dictate, for example: “workout on Mondays at 19:00”; “add lunch at 13:00 for all the following days”; “add a 10-minute breathing practice to my morning ritual at 07:00”; “log a supplement course for 14 days, intake at 8:00”. Dictation keeps going until you tap “Stop”. The assistant adds ritual steps to an existing “Habit” on the “Courses” tab, so create the habit in advance.

  10. Confirm what the assistant shows

The assistant shows a list of changes with labels like “new entry · event”, with “Apply” and “No thanks” buttons. The calendar doesn't change until you tap “Apply”. If a similar entry already exists, it warns you that another one will be created. If a change would replace existing data, a checkmark “I confirm replacing existing data” appears: without it, “Apply” is unavailable. The assistant doesn't turn on reminders: check “Remind me” yourself.

Questions about this section

A little more
clarity.

Why didn't the reminder arrive?

Check in this order: the “Reminders” row in Profile says “on”; the task has “Remind me” checked in its window, or its switch is on in “Which tasks to remind about”; the task isn't checked off yet, since checked-off tasks don't remind; and notifications for Zarok are allowed in the phone settings. If the phone delays the alert, turn on exact timing (step 3). If the phone hasn't allowed exact timing, task reminders with buttons arrive five minutes before the set time.

Why doesn't Zarok write every day?

Zarok's words are about how the day is going, not about the schedule. They appear only if the day has tasks and none are checked off, and no more than one per day. If you leave tasks unchecked for several days in a row, Zarok speaks the day after the first such day, and on the next two days too. Then it stays quiet for three days. On the eighth day, once seven days in a row have passed without check-offs, Zarok speaks once more, then stays quiet until something gets checked off. Each week, one free day doesn't count as a miss and doesn't break the count. If over the last 30 days you skipped tasks on the same day of the week several times, and there are at least eight checked-off days in that period, Zarok treats that day as your usual day off: on that day, it doesn't mention misses. Now and then Zarok notes that the day is underway, but no more than three times in seven days.

Can I turn off just Zarok's words?

There's no separate switch: the words come along with the reminders. There is a seven-day pause. The “Plan review” window opens when you tap the notification about seven days with no check-offs. Its “Pause” button turns off Zarok's words and the evening recap for seven days, including today. Reminders for tasks with a checkmark keep coming.

What happens after a phone restart, or if I don't open the app for a long time?

Reminders already set are restored after a phone restart. The schedule for seven days ahead is recalculated when you open the app and after task edits. If you haven't opened the app for a long time, reminders for new days appear the next time you open it.

Does it need internet?

No. The reminder schedule is stored on the phone, so reminders arrive without a network connection, in airplane mode too.
