Rituals & habits
A ritual is a step marked as a “Ritual step”, which opens your day on the “Morning” screen. A habit is a course made of steps: they show up on the course days, except break days.
The app is in Russian for now; the English interface is in preparation. Screenshots show the Russian interface, and button names in the text are given in English.
Open the habit form
Open the “Courses” tab and tap “+ Habit” at the bottom of the list, next to “+ Supplement course”. The first time you open it, Zarok walks you through the fields. Field hints open with the “?” button in the top-right corner of the form, and you can repeat the tutorial in “Profile → Tutorials”.
Name the first step
The “Name” field already says “First step”. Replace it, for example, with “Gratitude”: after you save, this name becomes the name of the whole habit. The category is set to “Breathing” at first. Until you pick a category yourself, it's chosen from the name: for “Gratitude”, the “Gratitude” category is selected. To pick another one, choose from eight: Body, Breathing, Gratitude, Mind & calm, Recovery, Food, Supplements, Other.
Set the duration, repeats and time
In the “Duration, min” field, enter the step's minutes. In the “Once a day” block, use the − and + buttons to choose from 1 to 8 repeats. A numbered time row appears for each repeat, under the “Time to do it” heading. A new row takes the time of the row above, and you can change it right away.
Pick “Day start”
“Ritual step” puts the step first on the “Morning” screen of a new day, before prep and your day plan. “Regular action” keeps the step in your day plan by its time. The first step of a new habit has “Ritual step” turned on.
Add prep and a video if you need them
In the “Prep ahead” block, tap “+ Prep item” and enter one thing per line. In the “Video” block, choose “One link” and paste the video's address. Or choose “List by day”: paste one link per line, and the “Days per video” and “From which day of the course” fields set which video goes on which day. The “Start the list over when it ends” checkbox repeats the list, and “Loop the video while it plays” repeats a single video.
Save and turn on a reminder
Tap “Save”: the message “Course action saved” appears, and the habit opens on the “Courses” tab with its list of steps. The “Remind me” checkbox appears on the step only after you save. To turn on a reminder, open the step: “Courses” → “Actions and phases” → the step you want, and check the box. The reminder comes on every day of the course at the step's time.
Step order
You can't change the order of steps by dragging or with the “up” and “down” buttons. In your day plan, items run by time: an earlier one sits higher. To put an item first on one particular day, swipe its card right and tap “Pin”. To keep a step somewhere permanently, change its time with “Edit action”. You can only move a step for one day: in the week view of the “Calendar” tab, drag the item to another day or tap “Move”, or swipe the card left and tap “Date”.
Check off a step
In your day plan, tap the circle on the right of the step's card. On the “Morning” screen, tap the step's row itself. A checked-off item moves down: in your day plan, to the “Done” block; on “Morning”, to the bottom of its own block. Checking off an item for a future day asks for confirmation as long as “Warn when checking off tasks on future days” is on (Profile → Behavior).
Edit, skip or delete a step
Tap ⋮ on the course step's card and choose “Edit action”: the name, time, repeats, duration, prep, video and “Day start” will be changed on all days of the course. “Skip for this day” removes the step from the selected date only. “Delete” in the step editor, which opens from “Courses” → “Actions and phases”, removes the step from the habit completely.
Or ask the assistant
On the “Assistant” tab, type or say what you need, for example: “Add gratitude for 5 minutes at 07:10 to my morning ritual”; “Change the time of the “Gratitude” step to 07:15”; “Lunch at 13:00, soup 300 g and salad 150 g”. To create a course from videos, paste two or more links and name the course in quotes, for example: “Course “Morning videos”, one day per video, looping”. The assistant shows the plan of changes with the “Apply” and “No thanks” buttons. Until you tap “Apply”, nothing changes on the calendar.
A little more
clarity.
How is a ritual different from a habit?
A ritual is a step set to “Ritual step”: it shows on the “Morning” screen of a new day. A habit is a course that groups steps; it runs day by day from its start date. A habit can include both “Ritual step” steps and regular actions.
Why didn't a habit step show up today?
Check the course's start date: steps don't show before it. Check for a “Break” phase: steps don't show on its days. The course may have ended: steps don't show after the last day either. The step may have been skipped for this day via ⋮ → “Skip for this day”.
Can I move a step up or down?
No, the app has no such action. The order is set by the step's time: set an earlier time with “Edit action”. To place an item higher on one particular day, pin it by swiping its card right.
What changes if I edit or delete a step?
“Edit action” applies to all days of the course. “Skip for this day” removes the step only from the selected date. “Delete” in the step editor removes it from the habit completely, for all days.
Will the assistant add a step to my habit by itself?
No. The assistant shows a plan of changes, and nothing changes until you tap “Apply”. If the plan will replace existing data, you'll need to tick “I confirm replacing existing data”. If a similar step already exists, the plan will warn you that another entry will be created. You can undo the result with the “Undo” button under the assistant's answer, while it's still available.
Do I need a subscription?
Habits, courses and your day plan are available without a subscription. The assistant works with the “Zarok Plus” subscription, which is set up through Google Play. The store shows the terms and price before you pay.
