Focus time

Focus time is a timer for one task. You choose the length and the alert. Picking a task is optional, and a break starts only when you want one.

The app is in Russian for now; the English interface is in preparation. Screenshots show the Russian interface, and button names in the text are given in English.

  1. Open the timer

On the “Day” screen, swipe right from the far-left edge, or tap the thin handle at the left edge: the day menu opens. Tap “Focus time.” You can also do it from a task card: swipe it right and tap “Focus.” The timer opens with that task already selected.

“What will you focus on?”, “Focus, min,” “Break, min,” and the “Start focus” button.
  2. Choose a task

In the “What will you focus on?” block, open the “Task for …” list. It shows the selected day's tasks that aren't checked off yet. If the session isn't about a specific task, leave “Not tied to a task.”

  3. Set the length

Tap “15 min,” “25 min,” or “45 min,” or type a number in the “Focus, min” field (1 to 120). In the “Break, min” field, enter a value from 1 to 30. If a number is outside the range, the app shows a hint, and the timer doesn't start.

  4. Choose an alert

In the “Alert at the end of a session” block (it expands when you tap it), open the “How to let you know” list and choose “Notification with sound,” “Silent notification,” or “No notification.” The “Short vibration” checkbox adds a vibration to the alert. The “Quiet hours” checkbox (described as “no sound or vibration during this time”) is checked by default: quiet hours run from 22:00 to 08:00. Uncheck it if you need the alert at night too; the times change in the “From” and “Until” fields. To save your settings without starting, tap “Save.”

Alert: “Notification with sound,” “Silent notification,” or “No notification.” Checkboxes: “Short vibration” and “Quiet hours” (checked by default); the “From” and “Until” fields.
  5. Start the session

Tap “Start focus.” The screen shows the countdown, “Pause,” and “End early.” You can open other sections: the countdown keeps going, and a timer line appears under the date on the “Day” screen while the session is running or paused.

During the countdown, “Pause” and “End early” are available. Breaks aren't part of focus time.
  6. Pause or end early

“Pause” stops the countdown, and “Resume” starts it again from the remaining time. “End early” ends the session now. If at least one second has passed, the session is saved in your history with the status “Ended early.”

  7. Check off the task

When the countdown ends, the screen shows “Nice one!” If the session was linked to a task and that task isn't checked off yet, tap “Check off the task.” The timer itself doesn't check it off.

  8. Take a break or start a new session

After a finished focus session, tap “Break · N min”: N is the saved value of the “Break, min” field (to make the button show a new value, save it with the “Save” button). When the break ends, the screen asks “Ready to keep going?” To start a new session, tap “New session.” Breaks don't go into your focus history.

A break runs like a session. It starts with the “Break · N min” button after a finished focus session; breaks aren't counted in focus time.
  9. Add the widget to the home screen (Android)

When no session is running and none is paused, the Android app shows an item called “Timer on the home screen,” with the label “Start and pause from the widget.” You can also add the widget from the home screen menu: “Zarok · Focus time.” It's 4 by 2 and can be stretched. It has no text labels, only icons: a triangle for “Start” or “Resume,” two bars for “Pause,” a square for “End early,” a leaf for “Start a break” (after a finished focus session), and a cross for “Close recap” (it removes the recap from the widget). Screen readers announce them as “Start focus time,” “Pause focus time,” “End focus time early,” “Start a break,” “Close session recap,” or “Close break recap.” Tapping the name opens the timer.

  10. Check today's totals

The “Your focus today” block shows the total time today and the number of sessions. Below it are the last 12 sessions from any day, with dates and the statuses “Completed” or “Ended early.”

  11. Open “My focus”

In the day menu, choose “My focus.” Switch the period between “Last 7 days” and “Last 30 days”: you'll see total focus time, the number of full sessions and short steps, a chart by day, and the tasks that got time. The “Go to a focus session” button opens the timer.

“My focus” screen: period, total focus time, and task list (screenshot is in Russian)
“My focus” opens from the day menu: the period “Last 7 days” or “Last 30 days,” totals, and tasks.
  12. Ask the assistant to log a course, ritual, or meal

The assistant doesn't start or change the timer. Entries are added when you ask, by text or voice, for example: “Add 10 minutes of breathing to my morning ritual at 07:00,” “Meal: breakfast at 08:30, oatmeal and two eggs,” “Add a two-week stretching course, every day at 19:00.” For voice, tap the microphone icon “Voice input,” speak, and tap “Stop recording” (the same icon): the text appears in the input field, and you send it yourself.

  13. Confirm or cancel the changes

The assistant shows the plan with “Apply” and “No thanks” buttons. If there are several items, or something will be overwritten, a “What will change” list with checkboxes sits above them, and the button shows how many are selected, for example “Apply (2).” Nothing changes until you tap “Apply.” If an item changes an existing entry, it's marked “changes entry.” When data is about to be overwritten, check “I confirm replacing existing data.”

Questions about this section

A little more
clarity.

Will the timer keep running if I close the app?

On Android, the phone runs the countdown: the session keeps going, and when it ends, a notification arrives if the alert is on, notifications are allowed, and the session ended no more than 5 minutes ago. If you come back more than 5 minutes after it ends, the session is still saved to your history, but there's no alert then.

Why didn't I get an alert?

There won't be an alert if “No notification” is selected. On Android, there won't be one if notifications are turned off on the phone or if the alert category is turned off in the phone's settings. If the session ended more than 5 minutes ago and the app found out later, there won't be an alert. During quiet hours, the notification arrives without sound or vibration.

Will an interrupted session go into my history?

Yes, if at least one second has passed. It's saved with the status “Ended early,” shows up in the “Your focus today” block and in “My focus” as a short step. Breaks don't go into history.

Do I need to check off the task after the timer?

No, ending the session doesn't check off the task. The “Check off the task” button appears after a finished focus session only if the session is linked to a task and the task isn't checked off yet.

Can the assistant start the timer or log a course, ritual, or meal?

The assistant doesn't start or set up the timer. It can log a course, a ritual step or a meal when you ask, but it shows the plan with an “Apply” button first; until you tap it, nothing is saved. The assistant works with a subscription, which you set up through Google Play.
